Progress

Wow... it's been awhile since I last updated, so I figured I'd add a quick post with some of the new works I'm messing with ;p.

************************************************************************************

This is an elven maiden I'd started recently, I think at this point I've put about 7 hours into it. Typically, I've only ever painted textures using Corel Painter, so I've been trying to expand my repertoire by learning to paint conceptually in Corel! Awesome software, a bit hard to get used to, not to mention the hot keys being different from Photoshop...

Really, I shouldn't complain, it's not that hard to learn, though I -do- need to get some more experimental time with the other medias....

I guess we'll see! Hopefully I'll have this finished here soon. I don't plan to push it much further as far as developing the image, but that's mostly because, as I said, this is more a learning piece than anything else.

************************************************************************************

The same can be said for this piece, though ultimately, I'd like to push it a little farther, I -am- going to try a different style of coloring. I want to lean more towards children's book illustration, with a bright, cartoony feel.

Obviously, I need to do a little research about what airman's hats looked like... 'cause I'm not quite there on this rough.

Hopefully I'll be able to pull it off though ;p

************************************************************************************

This piece will be a test for me. I want to push the photo-realism to the next level, as well as incorporating some neat style.

Ultimately, the dragon will begin as a tattoo across the girl's back and shoulder, rising off her skin to fly away. So I'll need to make sure it looks like a tattoo while still on her body, and real once it starts flying away. I'm also still trying to figure out what type of light I want to have in the scene, since the dragon would look awesome with glistening scales, so this will serve as a study for that, to ;p

************************************************************************************

This one was a 2.5 hour speed paint, in painter, of my brother. I -know- how very off I am... it looks like him, but I don't like what I did for the hair and I don't like how....Clunky the whole image feels.... but I that could be because of the speed... maybe... at least I can use that as an excuse ;p

This was actually the first Corel Painting I did entirely from scratch. I've done photo portraits before, which usually come out pretty well, but those are best done using a water blender on the original photo. This is all oil and completely from scratch.

Maybe I'll take more time later and clean it up ;p

************************************************************************************

And then, to break the trend, this was a 2 hour Photoshop paint I did of an old picture I have of a girl I used to work with.

It mimics the original photo pretty well, but in painted form, I think I'll need to go back and push the light further.. it's kinda washed out.

I obviously need ALOT of practice on hair.

************************************************************************************

As always, any input, tips and advice is greatly appreciated. Keep posted for updates and any new pieces I'm working on!!!

First post for Posterity?

Hey there! Thanks for coming in!

This is my first post on my art journal (in case the lack of priors didn't clue you in, I decided to state the obvious ;p)

I'm going to be using this as a way to let people in on my ideas, and offer input on what needs to change, and how to improve my portfolio.

Also, it's just fun to put my work up, for no reason at all :p.

Just a sprinkling of stuff I'm currently working on:

This is a Geisha I'm currently playing around with. Still have to work on her hair, her clothes, the orchids... and making her lips look like they belong on her face.

Obviously, this angel still needs her wings, and the left side of her head is, well it's warped. Again, WIP. :p

Any other advice for either of these pieces is well appreciated!
